Woman leaves mother to die in ‘litres’ of body waste
A woman in Melbourne, Australia has been charged with negligence after she allowed her own mother to die in horrendous conditions.
Yesterday Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard how 72 year old Kateryna Pyrczak was discovered by paramedics lying in “litres” of her own excrement on the floor of her kitchen last November 10th. Mrs Pyrczak’s legs and feet were consumed with gangrene and maggots were feeding from her rotting flesh, paramedics reported that the parasites had devoured her right foot.
In addition to the gangrene infection in her feet and legs, Mrs Pyrczak’s body was covered in painful, oozing ulcers. Paramedics told the police that when they entered the house it smelt like a rotting corpse had been dumped there.
The medical professionals rushed Mrs Pyrczak to hospital, but she died from multiple organ failure and septicemia within hours. Doctors who treated Mrs Pyrczak said they had never seen anything like it, some even required counselling.
Flesh eatting Maggots
Mrs Pyrczak was under the care of her 49 year old daughter, Mary Eve Pyrczak. When questioned the daughter told police she didn’t call for medical help sooner because she feared an $800 charge for using the service. Detective Senior Constable Victor Anastasiadis told the court that the house had smelt like death, but rather than call a doctor Mary Eve Pyrczak purchased cans of air freshener and also fly spray to keep the bugs off her mother.
Mary Eve Pyrczak was bailed and will appear in court again in August.
